South Tampa supermarket renovation may include wine and local craft offerings
Customers of a South Tampa Publix will have the chance to sip wine or beer as they shop in the future. The Publix at 3615 W Gandy Blvd. was first built in 1986. And, according to plans submitted to the city, it will soon be undergoing an $8.8 million renovation that includes the installation of a craft beer bar.
The supermarket located near the intersection of Gandy Boulevard and Himes Avenue will be torn down and replaced with a 59,409 square-foot new Publix. The grocer’s plans show the installation of Pours, a cafe offering local craft beers, wine, coffee, kombucha, smoothies and açaí bowls. The concept is featured in Publix’s Greenwise stores, which are focused on organic and natural products.
In addition to Pours, the new Publix will add mezzanine seating and feature a drive thru pharmacy. A Publix spokesperson did not respond to questions about the timeline for the current store’s demolition or the new store’s construction.
